BASE LAYER

Highly breathable layer, thin and should have good wicking properties. long sleeve recommended

Avoid cotton, go for either Gore-Tex or Gore approved materials

FLEECE LAYERS

Lightweight, thin fleece layers (up to 3). Long sleeve, breathable preferably with cuffing and neck. Go for materials with high wicking properties

WATERPROOFS

waterproof jacket is essential, though waterproof trousers less so, though a good idea if weather is wet. Gore-tex or triple point polymer is advisable to stop you sweating up

GLOVES / MITTS

Modern hiking gloves or soft-mitts should be worn.  Make sure you can still grip through them. Fingerless gloves aren't such a great idea for the heights. Not cotton!

HAT

About 30% of your body heat escapes from your head. Get a hat that is comfortable, well fitting and covers the back of your neck and ears. A balaclava and ski mask might be overkill!

SUNSHADES / EYE PROTECTION

High up the snow reflects the sun light intensely. On a clear day your eyes will ache. Get some good quality shades, or some ski style goggles. Do not use unless necessary - e.g. don't wear in fog!
